A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY TO REVEAL THE PATIENT CHARACTERISTICS, DISEASE BURDEN, TREATMENT PATTERNS AND OUTCOMES OF HER2 POSITIVE BREAST CANCER
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The emergence of Anti-HER2-targeted agents drastically changed the paradigm of care and outcomes of HER2-positive breast cancer over the last two decades.
OBJECTIVES: To characterize the treatment patterns and clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer
METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 237 HER2 positive patients registered in RCC from January 2010 to December 2018 . Data regarding socio-demographic details, tumor, patient, treatment characteristics were extracted and time to event outcomes were documented.
RESULTS: Majority of our patients were premenopausal(52%) multiparous(99%) females with average age between 31-45years .Most common presentation was left sided(52%) upper outer quadrant(76%) breast lump(93%). Her2 status was detected mainly by Immunohistochemistry (99%). IDC (96%) with grade3(53%) was the most common pathology. AJCC staging wise, I to IV includes 4%,49%,39% & 8% respectively. In non metastatic setting most common treatment sequence was afferent surgery(79%) followed by adjuvant therapy. Of the total 33 patients in the NACT group, 17 had pathological complete response. Overall 39% were not able to receive anti-her2 therapy mainly due to financial constraints (99%). The median overall survival in our study was 83 months (76 – 90 months,95%CI). Regarding chemo-toxicities fatigue (30%), nausea & vomiting (26%) were the common adverse events followed by hematologic toxicities (10-20%).
CONCLUSION: This study has systematically documented the clinical profile, treatment patterns and outcomes of HER2 positive breast cancer in our institute .
IMPLICATIONS: It will remain as a benchmark for comparison and for planning future strategies in management HER2 positive breast cancer .
