Abstract

Background: Measles is traditionally considered a childhood disease. However, during January–August 2026, we observed an unexpected increase in adult measles admissions at our tertiary care centre in Kashmir.

Observation: Eighteen adults with clinically and/or serologically confirmed measles were admitted during this period compared with only two adult admissions during the preceding year. Several patients presented with atypical features and required serological confirmation for diagnosis.

Conclusion: This observation parallels the recent global resurgence of measles and raises the possibility of changing age distribution of disease. Further studies evaluating vaccination history, immunity patterns, and age-specific trends are needed to determine whether this represents a true epidemiological shift.
